This Roman night spot has a "cult" following and is a favourite for tourists and Romans alike. The charisma of it's owner and the decorations of the owner with his children in various poses give this bar a kitsch but fun atmosphere. Live music on weekends and expect a busy crowd. Make sure to visit the incredible bathroom which has an ancient Roman sarcophagus and fountain inside. Excellent cocktail list available.

One of the most popular bars in Rome with a mixed crowd of all nationalities. Also popular with the Romans. Very cute bar tenders mix some of the best cocktails in town. Upstairs dining and in summer outside. Gets very crowded on weekends particularly after midnight. Great DJs spin all the latest tracks.

A great start to the night before hitting the discos. A fun crowded atmosphere of locals and tourists. Decorated in the Irish style serving a wide range of whiskly cognac and Guinness beers available. Thurs/Fri/Sat enjoy the disco bar which gets really busy. Happy Hour and free antipasti available.

Located near Piazza Venezia this authentic Scottish pub serves a wide range of beer and cider.. Discobar and Satellite sports events. Open till very late. Lots of drinking and dancing and always crowded, particularly on the weekends after midnight.

There are around 60 so called Irish bars in Rome, but Irish in name only. Finnegan's is THE ONLY Irish owned, of all the Irish Pubs in Rome, and a place where many of the Irish and British expats meet. So head on down, join in the craic, have a Guinness and game of pool. They show all English and Scottish Premiership football, Ireland and England Internationals, etc including all pay per view games - on Sky Sports Digital TV across 3 screens. They also have BBC1 and show 6 Nations Rugby, Formula 1, - and all other sporting events being aired.

The Drunken Ship

Good for those in search of English-speaking ex-pats and tourists. Equally popular is Sloppy Sams by the same owner also in Campo dei Fiori. Open late, loud music and always crowded.

Akab
Monte Testaccio

This is one of the most well-known evening spots in Rome. Outside dance area and 2 floors inside with DJs spinning house, hip-hop and popular music. Popular with locals and tourists but expect to wait in line unless you have "contacts". Very busy on Fri and Sat nights.

Gilda
Via Mario dei Fiori 97

Close to Piazza di Spagna the rich and famous hang out here in the VIP section. Disco music dominates the dancefloor, there's a piano bar reserved for private parties and a well-run restaurant. In summer the establishment moves out to Fregene, on the coast, for Gilda on the Beach.

Goa

This is where some of Europe's best DJs play at- recent guests include the Chemical Brothers. House and jungle music predominate amid a sophistacted ethno setting - candles and mirrors, incence and flowers. Tuesday is gay night. Always a big line.

Alien
Via Velletri 13-19 Testaccio

This club is brash and bold, with sexy dancers paid to gyrate to house, commercial and revival. Theme evenings include 'Stardust' (house, funk, trance and dance) on Fridays and 'Gay 'Night' on Saturdays.

Alibi

This club is frequented by 'gay and friends' and plays predominantly house music with occasional live concerts.

Popular night spot on a boat on the River Tiber that also has an upstairs restaurant. Particularly busy with the University crowd on Wednesday nights. Fri and Sat nights expect a huge crowd and line to get in. In the summer the outside areas are open and give it a little more space.

Dune

Very popular dance spot right near Piazza Venezia with locals and ex pats. Always a line on weekends and Wed nights. House music on Fri nights.

Supper Club

New and elegant the Supper Club offers 5 floor offering different types of dance music. Plenty of places to just hang out and chat as well as dance.

Big Mama
Vicolo di San Francesco a Ripa 18

Jazz lovers should head for Big Mama's. It is notoriously cramped but pulls some good up-and-coming musicians, plus a few big names.

Caffè Caruso

This club hosts performances from local and visiting Caribbean, Cuban and Brazilian musicians.
